Vivienne Powell is an actor and singer. Born in Sydney, Australia, she displayed a passion and talent for the performing arts from an early age, taking leading roles in school and college productions, both dramatic and musical.

 

Vivienne’s first training as an actor was with the Q Theatre in Penrith, Sydney, under the respected British director, Richard Brooks. With stage experience behind her, life took a different direction as she developed her talents as a classical and opera singer, working over the years with well-known Australian vocal coaches, for instance the eminent and highly respected Australian conductor Richard Gill. Vivienne later travelled to Germany and Austria where she continued her singing training.

 

In addition to years of working with private teachers in singing and performance technique, Vivienne undertook demanding postgraduate music studies in singing performance, with the award of the Master of Creative Arts from the University of Newcastle, Australia.

 

As a professional, highly experienced concert artist, Vivienne’s repertoire encompasses a wide variety of genres, from classical, opera, operetta, musical theatre, cabaret and jazz. She has performed as a soloist with many orchestras, including the Sydney Symphony Orchestra at the Sydney Opera House, and also with numerous jazz bands. Vivienne has also appeared as a soloist at other prestigious venues, such as the Sydney Town Hall and City Recital Hall, Sydney. She has been employed by Opera Australia, Sydney Opera House, as an opera singer, and has worked extensively as a solo concert artist with many organizations, as well as private, corporate and charity groups.

 

A versatile artist, Vivienne has been acclaimed for the artistic delivery of her music and is known for her strong acting ability in bringing the emotional depth of the characters alive. Theatre credits include Isabelle in Ring Round the Moon and the title role of Carmen in Carmen.

 

Vivienne has also worked as a teacher, and over the years has given many children valuable life experiences in music, as a trainer, conductor and musical director of numerous children’s choirs and vocal ensembles.

 

Over the last few years, Vivienne has returned to her love of acting, and has enjoyed playing a variety of roles in her film and television work. In 2011 Vivienne studied with esteemed acting teacher, Howard Fine, in Los Angeles. She will be returning to the United States in 2012 to further her acting and singing career.

 

Vivienne is presently working on her two one-woman shows, which will be performed in 2012.
